Equity 4 ATL Parks

IS ATLANTA FAIR ABOUT HOW RESOURCES FOR PARKS ARE SHARED AND HOW ALL PARKS ARE MAINTAINED?

All of Atlanta’s parks regardless of location should have an equal opportunity to maximize all health, economic, environmental, and quality of life benefits that public park spaces can provide. Equal opportunity depends on equity. Equity means fairness. And fairness means proximity to a park plus proximity to a quality park.

Equity requires the answer to, ”Whether Atlanta is fair about how resources for parks are shared and how all parks are maintained?” The answer starts with fulfilling our request to have the 2030 Parks Master Plan include the data on all dollars spent on each park by council district for at least the last 5 years.

Cities that are serious about equitable park systems develop data driven strategies to ensure there are equitable funding practices in place for capital investments and maintenance. And they ensure the funding practices are implemented and sustained.

Working together we can ensure a commitment from our Mayor and City Council for a Parks Equity Framework that will guide Atlanta forward to make meaningful progress in bridging equity funding gaps across All Atlanta.
